Scholars reflect on the transformative legacy of Prof Lis Lange

Leading academics, colleagues and students gathered at SU to reflect on Prof Lis Lange’s wide-ranging impact. The symposium critically appraised Lange’s legacy in curriculum reform, governance and intellectual activism. A commemorative volume based on the papers delivered at the symposium will be published next year.

Health and wellbeing workshop charts a humanising path forward for SU

SU staff gathered for a two-day strategic workshop hosted by the Institutional Committee of Staff Health and Wellbeing to co-create a more integrated, multi-dimensional, compassionate approach to health and wellbeing. Participants drawn from the Wellbeing Ambassador Programme and other environments engaged deeply, raising both concerns and solutions, while praising an inspiring case study. The workshop marked a significant step in shaping a values-based wellbeing strategy grounded in modern wellbeing science, collaboration, honesty and shared purpose.

Stellenbosch University honoured Prof Lis Lange for her intellect, integrity, and lifelong commitment to transformation in higher education. Speakers, including Rector Prof Deresh Ramjugernath, remembered her as a courageous scholar and principled leader who united excellence and inclusion. Tributes from family and colleagues celebrated her warmth, wit, and humanity, affirming that her legacy will endure through the people and institutions she shaped.

Transformation Indaba confronts the past, reimagines the future

The two-day Transformation Indaba at SU was characterised by unflinching reflections on the complexities of institutional change. Speakers urged the University to move beyond policy to authentic transformation rooted in empathy, equity and shared responsibility. The event reaffirmed SU’s commitment to building a university where every person can truly belong.
