Centre for Teaching and Learning
What we do
The Centre for Teaching and Learning’s main aim is the professional learning of academics, with regard to their teaching role.
Our Services
The core responsibilities of the CTL include offering professional learning opportunities for SU academics such as the following:
Short courses
Our SU-accredited and TLA-inspired short courses include: the Assessment, Learning and AI in TLA, the PREDAC (Professional Educational Development for newly appointed academics) short course as well as the Scholarship of Educational Leadership (SoEL) and teaching and learning (SoTL). We also offer a training course of peer-to-peer facilitation of learning for students.
Awards, fellowships and funding
We also administer funding opportunities and run recognition programs, fellowships and awards for SU teaching staff.
Seminars, conferences and faculty involvement
The CTL offers monthly TLA talks called Auxins and quarterly Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE) seminars. Each SU faculty has an appointed CTL advisor to assist with TLA matters including module and programme renewal.
TLA policies, resources and research
We govern institutional TLA policies, provide additional resources and support for TLA practices as well as encourage and participate in research in the field. The institutional student feedback system is also administered by the CTL.
