Our research is also directed at making a significant and measurable impact. Guided by our institutional strategic theme of Research for Impact, we push the boundaries of knowledge and maximise our contribution through strategic research areas that connect the university with the world. Our research agenda is framed by five strategic areas – the natural environment, health and human security, social justice and development, human creativity and social innovation, and systems and technologies for the future. Each aligns with South Africa’s National Development Plan, the African Union’s Agenda 2063 goals and the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
