Medical Cover Requirements for Stellenbosch University Students
- The South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requires proof of medical cover registered with the SA Council for Medical Schemes in terms of the Medical Schemes Act 1998, for the duration of your study visa from a registered scheme in terms of the Medical Schemes Act.
- Any student registering at Stellenbosch University on a study visa must have South African Medical cover from the commencement date of the study visa until 31 December of the specific academic year of registration.
- If a student re-registers for a new academic year, the renewal of the medical cover must commence on 1 January until 31 December of the new academic year.
- Medical cover is required at all times for the period of your study visa validity; no months may be intermittent in between.
- No continuing student will be allowed to be registered without medical cover from January and until December.
- We strongly advise students to carefully review their medical cover to ensure they have sufficient coverage during their stay in SA and to deal directly with the provider.
