The focus of community-based programmes is on educational initiatives that support the work of schools and other organisations with whom SU International has strong relationships. Key programmes include:

• Global Service Learning (GSL): GSL is an academic credit-bearing GEP course. The course comprises of 60 in-class hours and 50 hours of community engagement. The course is presented in collaboration with Boschendal Estate, Excelsior Creche, Nondzame, Pniel, Simondium, and PC Petersen Primary. It enables students to develop their global citizenship through community engagement and to broaden their understanding of South African history and contemporary life.

• Volunteering & Community Engagement (VCE) Programmes: These programmes are designed to allow for a deepened engagement with various communities in Stellenbosch without being academic credit bearing. The goal is to get students involved in structured community service projects in order to help them to connect, learn, and contribute through meaningful experiences. It focuses on After-School education with high school learners, and Early Childhood Development. We work alongside 3 key stakeholders, namely Ikaya Primary School, Songo.info, and Vision Africa.

• Students also have the opportunity to connect with SU's Social Impact Office where they can discover other community organisations in Stellenbosch to volunteer and grow impact.
