· Oversees the immigration portfolio at Stellenbosch University, ensuring full compliance with South African immigration regulations for international students, staff, and postdoctoral fellows. · Assists international staff and postdoctoral fellows with visa applications, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth immigration transitions. · Supports pre-registration clearance, verifying documentation for international degree-seeking students to ensure smooth academic registration. · Manages support services across immigration, accommodation, and transport, facilitating seamless integration and a positive experience for international students and staff during their stay at Stellenbosch University.

Snyman Carmien

· Manages the Services Centre at Stellenbosch University International, overseeing the delivery of comprehensive support services to international students, staff, and visitors, ensuring seamless integration, efficient operations, and high levels of satisfaction across various service areas such as immigration, accommodation, transport, and student services. · Manages financial operations for Stellenbosch University International, including budgeting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with university policies and efficient resource allocation. · Oversees International Student Finances, providing advice on fee structures, aligning them with the institutional system and liaising with auditors, while also serving on the Student Fees Committee and Historic Debt Task Team. · Manages office operations for SU International, coordinating recruitment, staff induction, leave administration, and HR communication, while overseeing intern recruitment. · Oversees office planning and operations, coordinating facilities, IT, and resource allocation, while managing asset registry, office supplies, occupational health and safety compliance, security measures, and maintenance procedures.

Derby Norma

Facilitate and coordinate the development of partnership agreements with institutions across Africa. Manage funded projects for student and staff capacity development. Engage in collaborative initiatives and programmes with partners across Africa. Provide support with organising inbound visits for our bilateral and other partners throughout Africa. Organise Africa-focused events.

Elema Nico

Leads international partnerships across Africa and beyond through the work of the CCA team. Manages key programmes and grants, including the Africa Collaboration Grant and Intra-Africa mobility schemes. Directs continental networks, such as AUDA-NEPAD SANWATCE, PERIPERI U, and supports SARUA, STARS, and AHEEN initiatives.

No time for hibernation at SU International: The show must go on

Global Participation – SU International welcomed over 160 participants from 19 countries, plus 285 new international semester students, through diverse short-term and semester programmes during June and July 2025. Varied Academic and Cultural Offerings – Programmes included summer schools, thematic study tours, intensive English training, and the African Doctoral Academy Winter School, all blending academic excellence with cultural immersion. Expanding International Impact – The growing interest in SUI’s winter programmes affirms SU’s global appeal and supports Vision 2040, with a future focus on strengthening mobility within Africa.

In Africa, with Africa, for Africa: Visit paving the way for future collaboration

Strengthening Pan-African partnerships – SU’s Rector and Vice-Chancellor led a first-ever strategic tour through Zimbabwe, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda to deepen collaboration with universities, stakeholders, and alumni. Showcasing impact and networks – The tour highlighted SU’s role in initiatives like PANGeA, Africa–Japan INSPIRE, and long-standing collaborations with universities such as Makerere, Strathmore, JKUAT, and UniRwanda. Alumni and donor engagement – Alumni chapters, thriving graduates, and support from partners like the Gerda Henkel Foundation reinforced the value of SU’s networks and partnerships for Africa’s development.

Strengthening South-South Collaboration: Visiting Bogotá, Colombia

Strengthening South–South partnerships – SU International expanded its regional engagement in Latin America through participation in the GLOSOUTH: Colombia–South Africa Initiative. Deepening collaboration with Uniandes – The visit to Universidad de los Andes reinforced existing agreements and explored new opportunities in research, student exchange, and joint capacity building. Expanding SU’s footprint in Colombia – Exploratory meetings with Javeriana and Rosario universities broadened potential partnerships for future academic and research collaboration.

Equity and inclusion are central to SU’s internationalisation efforts. SU is strengthening support for international student success and belonging. SU is expanding and diversifying mobility opportunities, including “internationalisation at home.”
