Non-Degree/Short-term Mobility Students

SU welcomes international students from our partner and non-partner institutions to experience world-class learning through a variety of short-term and non-degree programmes.

Whether you're joining SU as an exchange student, attending a summer or winter school, participating in research, enrolling as a Freemover or through the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), you’ll find a programme that aligns with your academic goals and personal interests.

As a leading institution on the African continent, SU combines cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and a commitment to transformation and sustainability. Our short-term international students gain access to a rich academic environment and a vibrant campus life, all while engaging with one of South Africa’s most scenic and historically significant regions.

Staying Connected with the SU Community as an international student

Upon your arrival at Stellenbosch University, there are many ways you can stay connected and engaged with the SU community and SU International:

  • Join ISOS (the International Student Organisation of Stellenbosch): Meet fellow international students, take part in social and cultural events, and build a support network on campus.
  • Connect with Your Matie Buddy: Keep in touch with your Matie Buddy, who’s there to help you settle in and navigate student life. You can also be an ambassador for your home institution by sharing your culture and experiences with others.
  • Sign up and participate in the International Food Evening: one of our signature events. Each semester, international students share dishes from their home countries, offering local students, staff, and residents a taste of global flavors.
  • Follow SU International on social media: Stay up to date with news, events, and opportunities happening in and around campus:
