Partner with Stellenbosch University
Stellenbosch University (SU), through SU International and its dedicated Working Group for Agreement Development, facilitates the establishment of formal cooperation agreements with higher education institutions and related organisations around the world. These agreements are typically captured in Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) or other formal arrangements that support mutually beneficial collaboration.
How to Partner with SU
Process Flow for Agreement Requests:
This process outlines the establishment or renewal of bilateral/multilateral partnerships with international higher education institutions:
For all Institutional Level Agreement requests please contact Mr. Thamsanqa Mahlobo – [email protected]
For all Faculty Level Agreement requests please contact Ms. Ntombuzanile Macingwana – [email protected]

Planning a Staff Exchange?
Before initiating a staff exchange partnership, consider:
- Which department or faculty will serve as the host
- Financial responsibilities: What costs will be covered by the host institution vs. the home institution (e.g. housing, stipend, flights)
- Any potential research-related expenses
- Availability of external or third-party funding

Planning a Student Exchange?
If you're considering initiating a student exchange agreement, take note of:
- Tuition waivers: These are approved centrally for institutional-level exchanges or by faculties for faculty-level exchanges
- Travel grant opportunities: These are primarily allocated to students participating in institutional-level exchanges
- Reciprocity of exchange: Agreements should allow for balanced two-way mobility
- Administrative fees: All incoming exchange students to SU are required to pay an Exchange Administrative Fee (EAF), which includes the International Registration Fee (IRF) and a service fee
- External funding: Explore whether funding is available to support mobility
