Join us at the Toyota Woordfees for a new series of captivating science café talks, moderated by well-known science journalist and author, Engela Duvenage

Science Café Stellenbosch is an initiative of the Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University. Entrance is free.

Topic

Just a toy. A solution looking for a problem. This is how the invention of the first working laser was described in 1960. Today, this incredible technology is a cornerstone of modern technology – from telecommunications, facial recognition and autonomous cars, to shooting down drones in war zones. In this talk, science journalist and author, Engela Duvenage, will explore the boundaries of the (im)possible with laser physicists from the Stellenbosch Photonics Institute.

Speakers

Prof. Pieter Neethling, Director: Stellenbosch Photonics Institute, Stellenbosch University

Dr. Christine Steenkamp, Department of Physics, Stellenbosch University

Dr. Gurthwin Bosman, Department of Physics, Stellenbosch University
