Sentrum vir Akademiese Beplanning en Gehalteversekering
The Centre for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance:
- Liaises with various higher education bodies in South Africa and interprets the policy environment within which the University functions.
- Assists academics in curriculum planning, design and review, whether developing a new academic programme and/or modules, or reviewing, re-designing or renewing an existing academic programme and/or modules.
- Manages the quality assurance cycle at the University, along with deans and responsibility centre heads, to ensure that all departments and support service divisions conduct self-evaluations, host peer review site visits, and implement quality enhancement actions.
- Provides secretariat support to the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) and the Quality Committee (QC).
- Oversees institutional audits and national reviews, as well as other quality assurance and enhancement initiatives at the University, in collaboration with a multitude of partners, role-players and stakeholders.
APQ supports the entire quality continuum,
to allow for the quality assurance of the University's everyday activities, while enhancing the quality of our academic offerings through three interrelated sub-sets:
Quality Assurance
The quality management system provides for the regular evaluation of academic departments and professional academic support services according to a fixed cycle for quality assurance and enhancement. The system also provides for the periodic review and renewal of faculties, organisational structures, and academic programmes and qualifications, taking into account the scheduling of national reviews, and evaluations conducted by professional bodies.
Academic Planning
Academic planning supports and facilitates the planning, approval, accreditation and registration of new academic programmes and modules, as well as substantial changes to existing programmes in collaboration with academics, academic support services and other role-players and stakeholders (e.g. professional bodies). Academic Planning supports the maintenance of the University's Programme and Qualification Mix (PQM) and adheres to the CHE Framework and Criteria for Programme Accreditation (2004) for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.
Curriculum Transformation
Curriculum transformation is an integrated process of continuous quality enhancement of existing programmes and modules, encompassing review, redesign, and renewal. These efforts focus on making informed curriculum decisions using available data and enhancing teaching, learning and assessment practices. We advise faculties and programme leaders on curriculum transformation in collaboration with other internal role-players to achieve Africanisation, decolonisation, and restitution and assist faculties with programme renewal projects funded by the University Capacity Development Grant of the Department of Higher Education and Training.
