We're excited to welcome you to SU! This section will provide a comprehensive overview of the application process for international exchange students. From nomination by your home institution, each step is designed to ensure a smooth transition to your academic journey at SU. Whether you’re seeking new educational opportunities or cultural experiences, this guide will help you navigate the necessary steps to become part of our vibrant international community. Let's get started!


6-Step Application Guide for Semester Students:

  • Before applying to Stellenbosch University (SU), international exchange students must be nominated by their home institution.
  • Visit the Partner Institution Nomination webpage to complete this process.
  • After receiving a nomination, students must proceed to submit their application

 

Free mover Students: Submit their application directly on the SUNStudent application Platform- listed in step 2

a) Go to the SUNStudent Application Platform.

b) Complete the online application form with the required information.

c) Ensure you upload all necessary documents as specified in the application guidelines.

  • Successful students will receive a letter of admission within one week of applying. This letter is essential for visa purposes.
  • Along with the admission letter, students will receive a link to apply for university-administered accommodation. Follow the link provided in your admission letter to apply for accommodation. The Housing Office will provide feedback on your housing application.
  • After submitting your application, course applications will be sent to the relevant academic departments for approval.
  • Students will receive feedback on their course applications.

To ensure that all students meet their credit requirements as set by their home university, a second round of course applications will take place based on the feedback received.

  • Pre-registration takes place before students arrive.
  • Ensure you have submitted your South African medical insurance and study visa prior to this step.
  • Final course registration occurs on campus at the end of Orientation Week.
  • Students must submit their final course registration forms during this period.

Stellenbosch University has a wide network of partners around the world and students have to be selected and nominated by their home university to apply as an exchange student.
