Stellenbosch University’s spinout ReSurfify has been recognised as the winner of the inaugural Agritech Innovation Challenge, showcasing the impact of research emerging from the Department of Chemical Engineering. This innovation stems from the work of Dr André Valkenberg, recognised at the 2025 Research & Innovation Awards as Best PhD Student, who completed both his BEng and PhD in Chemical Engineering at SU. His research, conducted under the supervision of Prof Robbie Pott, contributes to the development of sustainable biosurfactants - an area gaining traction as industry seeks environmentally responsible alternatives.
