Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

Preparing the next generation of industry experts

The Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Stellenbosch University is transforming healthcare through innovative education, research and practice. Specialising in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech, language and hearing therapy, we offer programmes that blend the latest scientific insights with extensive practical training. Our state-of-the-art simulation labs and community-based rehabilitation projects have led to measurable improvements in patient outcomes, particularly in underserved regions, such as our pioneering work on neuroplasticity in stroke rehabilitation, which has contributed to treatment protocols used in local clinics.

We take pride in our close partnerships with regional hospitals and healthcare providers, resulting in tailored therapy interventions that reduce recovery times and enhance overall well-being. Our department has led innovative research projects directly influencing clinical practice, ensuring our graduates gain hands-on experience with evidence-based approaches. We nurture professionals who tackle health challenges with practical, people-centered solutions – impacting healthcare and rehabilitation for communities across the region.
