Division of Occupational Therapy

At the Division of Occupational Therapy, which is housed within the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, we combine thorough academic learning with hands-on practice to prepare students for varied roles in clinical, community and rehabilitation settings. Our curriculum has earned recognition for pioneering community integration models that address local health challenges in the Western Cape. By actively listening to student feedback and incorporating the latest research, we keep our courses flexible and responsive to changing healthcare needs.

Our division is known for its award-winning research in assistive technologies and innovative intervention strategies that improve daily living for vulnerable populations. Working closely with local organisations, our students participate in projects like OT Connect – a community outreach initiative transforming rehabilitation services in underserved areas. These achievements and our focus on practical, evidence-based education empower our graduates to become skilled clinicians and inventive problem solvers, making a real difference in patient care and community well-being.
