Division of Physiotherapy

The Division of Physiotherapy, housed within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at Stellenbosch University, prepares aspirant physiotherapists to tackle health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Our programmes emphasise reflective practice and are grounded in the core values of physiotherapy, equipping students with practical expertise through state-of-the-art facilities and advanced research opportunities. We have pioneered digital gait analysis in clinical settings and developed innovative rehabilitation protocols for spinal injury patients, approaches that have been adopted locally and internationally.

Our division goes beyond the classroom by connecting students directly with communities through service-learning projects. Collaborations with local clinics have enabled our students to contribute to antenatal care initiatives and other outreach programmes. These hands-on experiences, combined with our focus on evidence-based practice and rigorous research, ensure our graduates emerge as skilled clinicians and forward-thinking leaders who drive meaningful improvements in healthcare outcomes.
