Course Description
This 3-day interactive course provides an overview of current trends in academic publishing, particularly in the health sciences. It explores key considerations in journal selection, including navigating specific journal requirements, as well as issues related to authorship and collaborative writing. The course also examines different approaches to writing and structuring academic articles, equipping participants with practical strategies to develop and position their work for publication.

- Acquire knowledge of the field of academic publishing, including how to select appropriate journals and where to find relevant information when starting out
- Understand how to “join the conversation” by identifying and positioning the contribution of their research
- Plan and structure a coherent and logically developed academic article
- Develop a personal roadmap towards getting published

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for early career researchers including doctoral students wishing to establish their research profiles.
Course Materials
All course materials will be uploaded onto the MS Teams online platform. Worksheets, exercises/tasks and class notes will be provided on this platform and/or distributed during the classes.
What to Bring
Laptop, stable internet connection and notepads. Course material will be provided electronically.

Participants should have engaged in some form of research and could potentially be published
Workshop Format
The workshop will be highly interactive in nature. The activities will focus on the participants' individual research journeys.
The ADA reserves the right to cancel any course should the minimum required number of participants not be reached. In such cases, all fees already paid will be fully refunded, or where possible, delegates will be offered the option to transfer to an alternative course.
Cancellations and Refunds
The final date to withdraw from the ADA Winter School is 29 May 2026. Participants who withdraw on or before this date will be eligible for a 50% refund. After 29 May 2026, no refunds will be issued, unless a replacement participant can be found to take their place.
The ADA also reserves the right to cancel a course where necessary.
