Course Description
This interactive three-day online course introduces participants to the practical use of ATLAS.ti for qualitative data management and analysis. Days one and two will focus on developing confidence in the core functions and basic features of the software, including setting up projects, organising qualitative datasets, coding data, writing memos, and using key analytic tools within ATLAS.ti. Day three will place greater emphasis on applying these skills to qualitative analysis processes, including working with categories, themes, interpretation, and analytic thinking within qualitative research projects.
Course Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Create and manage an ATLAS.ti project for qualitative research
- Import and organise different forms of qualitative data, including interview transcripts, documents, and multimedia files
- Apply, manage, merge, and organise codes within ATLAS.ti
- Use quotations, code groups, comments, and memos to support data organisation and analysis
- Use network views and visual tools within ATLAS.ti to explore relationships across codes and data
- Retrieve, compare, and review coded data segments using ATLAS.ti analytic functions
- Apply ATLAS.ti tools to support the development of categories, patterns, and themes within qualitative datasets
- Export and manage outputs from ATLAS.ti to support qualitative research reporting and writing

Target Audience
The course is designed for postgraduate students, and researchers interested in learning how to use ATLAS.ti for qualitative data management and analysis. The course will be particularly valuable for postgraduate students conducting qualitative or mixed methods research.
Course Materials
All course materials will be made available electronically via the online learning platform (SUNOnline and/or MS Teams). Materials will include presentation slides, practical exercises, guided activities, example datasets, and supplementary resources to support learning throughout the course. As this is an online course, participants will be expected to access and engage with materials digitally during and between sessions.
What to Bring
1. A laptop or computer capable of running ATLAS.ti smoothly
2. A stable internet connection for the duration of the online course
3. Access to an ATLAS.ti license (trial or full version) installed prior to the course
4. A reliable power supply or backup solution where possible 5. Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to actively engage in discussions and practical activities
Delegate Requirements
Participants should have a basic understanding of research processes and qualitative research methods, ideally at postgraduate level. No prior experience with ATLAS.ti is required. Participants are encouraged to bring a qualitative research project, dataset, interview transcripts, or research topic that they would like to work on during the course practical sessions.
Workshop Format
The workshop will be interactive and practice-oriented, providing participants with hands-on activities and guided exercises in qualitative data organisation, coding, and analysis using ATLAS.ti.
The ADA reserves the right to cancel any course should the minimum required number of participants not be reached. In such cases, all fees already paid will be fully refunded, or where possible, delegates will be offered the option to transfer to an alternative course.
Cancellations and Refunds
