Postgraduate Studies
Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law prepares students to make a meaningful contribution to society through a combination of academic excellence and research-driven legal education. Its postgraduate programmes provide opportunities for both advanced study and specialist training. In addition to its flagship Master of Laws (LLM) and doctoral programmes, the Faculty offers Postgraduate Diplomas in Tax Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Public Procurement Policy and Regulation. These qualifications provide graduates with specialist knowledge and practical expertise, supporting professional development in both local and international contexts.
Research is central to the Faculty’s mission and is reflected in its strong output and impact. The Faculty hosts the South African Research Chair in Property Law, the HF Oppenheimer Chair in Human Rights Law, and the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property, which anchor its research strengths and provide a rich environment for postgraduate study.
English Language Proficiency
Applicants whose previous qualifications were not obtained in English are required to provide proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or another recognised test). This documentation must be submitted with the application to support the credential evaluation process.
