Postgraduate Studies​​

The Faculty of Education is at the forefront of addressing today’s most pressing educational challenges. Our research programme is dedicated to strategically important themes that shape the future of education in South Africa and beyond.

By tackling both local and international needs, our research strengthens and enriches all our teaching programmes. At the heart of our work is a commitment to developing human potential within diverse communities, ensuring that education is both inclusive and transformative.

Each of our three departments brings a unique but complementary focus, working together to advance the Faculty’s broad research vision and deliver meaningful impact.

Teacher training for the senior and further education and training phases

Should you wish to become a high school teacher, your undergraduate studies at other faculties could be a basis for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).​ ​This one-year programme focuses on developing competencies in a subject-related field that the candidate can apply in the Senior- and Further Education and Training phases. Completion of this qualification leads to professional registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).  ​

Higher Education

The Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education caters for the professional needs of lecturers and learning facilitators. This Diploma falls under the Department of Curriculum Studies.​

Bachelor of Education Honours (BEdHons)

The Bachelor of Education programmes are geared towards enriching and deepening your knowledge in a chosen specialist field in order to equip you to contribute meaningfully to strengthening and improving education in South Africa.
