About/vision 

The Maties Underwater Club (MUC) is an official Maties Recreational Sport and licensed 5-star PADI Dive Center. The MUC seeks to cultivate a responsible, skilled, and environmentally conscious community of divers within Stellenbosch University. Run by elected students from Stellenbosch university, the mission of the Maties Underwater Club is to promote the safe and sustainable enjoyment of underwater sports through education, training, and outreach while fostering the values of stewardship, teamwork, and personal growth.  

Additionally, through the facilities and opportunities provided by Maties Sport, we aim to: Educate members on ocean-related matters, promote ocean conservation awareness and conservation-based involvement opportunities and focus on F.U.N. (Further development, Underwater exploration and Networking opportunities). 

The club provides a large array of fun dives on the weekend (both SCUBA diving and guided snorkels), where students explore the underwater world primarily in Simons Town as well as other unique dive spots along the Cape Town coast. We offer various PADI SCUBA diving courses, such as Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD), Open Water 1, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and Refresher courses. These courses are recognized world-wide and you are qualified for life! The Club has recently begun expanding its Freediving and Spearfishing presence within the Western Cape and is well-known and involved with these clubs and communities.

Discover diving: PADI OPEN WATER: Take the plunge and learn to dive with the PADI Open Water Course! Our experienced PADI instructors will guide you every step of the way, making this a truly unforgettable experience. This 4 day course includes online theory, pool training sessions and 4 official ocean dives to equip you with all the skills needed to maximise your underwater experience up to 18 meters! 

Level up your Adventure: PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER: Ready to see more and do more underwater? Take your diving skills to the next level with the PADI Advanced Open Water Course! This certification expands your knowledge and provides valuable experience in specialized areas like deep diving (30m), navigation, and night diving. Enhance your underwater abilities and unlock new depths of adventure through this 4-day course, including theory, 3 shore-based dives and 2 boat dives. This course prepares you for the most rewarding diving experiences both locally and internationally! 

Dive in Again: REFRESHER COURSE: Has it been a while since your last dive? Rediscover your love for SCUBA diving! The PADI ReActivate (Refresher) course is specifically designed to help you regain your skills and knowledge as a diver. Get back in the water, refresh your core abilities, and step into the underwater world feeling safe, confident, and excited to explore! It is advised that you should book a refresher course if you haven’t dived in more than a year, and this single day pool course helps you review your dive skills before tacking the ocean once again.
