Centre for Applied Ethics
Centre for Applied Ethics
The Centre for Applied Ethics is hosted in the Department of Philosophy, delivering impactful and innovative research and teaching on challenges in the fields of AI ethics, bioethics, business ethics, environmental ethics and socio-political ethics. Our programmes are tailored to (predominantly) professional applicants who do not necessarily have an academic background in philosophy. We offer three programmes: a Postgraduate Diploma, MPhil and PhD in Applied Ethics. These programmes are geared to equipping students with the necessary theory and critical argumentative skills to address complex moral problems in their fields of work, including medicine, business, the environment, government and civil society. The Centre, which has been running for more than 30 years, boasts a core staff with internationally-recognised expertise and research outputs and associate staff who are leading practitioners in the various sub-fields of applied ethics, as well as an impressive list of prominent and influential alumni.
