Biography
Bernard Wessels is an Associate Professor in the Department of Private Law. He obtained his BA (Humanities), BA (Hons), and his LLB from Stellenbosch University. He commenced his articles of clerkship at Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs Inc. in 2009 where he also practised as an attorney. He joined the Faculty in 2012 and teaches the Law of Delict. In 2014, he obtained his BCL degree (first) from the University of Oxford (University College) and, in 2018, he was awarded the Doctor of Laws degree for his the - sis titled “Developing the South African law of delict: the creation of a statutory compensation fund for crime victims”. In 2021, he published the book, The Legal Profession in South Africa: History, Liability & Regulation (Juta)
