Registration procedures

Stellenbosch campus
The following registration options are available to students based in faculties on the Stellenbosch campus:

Option 1: Online registration (self-registration)

As most students can register online, we encourage you to make use of the online registration process via the Student Portal

Install Microsoft Authenticator before registration:
All new and returning students must install the Microsoft Authenticator (MA) app on their Android or Apple smartphone or tablet before registering. This is a compulsory requirement from Microsoft: Microsoft Authenticator Guide

The following students will not have access to online registration:

  • Current SU students who have one or more proof-of-admissibility document(s) outstanding (e.g. matriculation exemption certificate, advice of results, or post-matriculation proof of admissibility)
  • Current SU students whose readmission to the University is not in order
  • Students whose Student Fees accounts with the University are in arrears (debtors). Please see the Student Fees section for more information.
  • Students who register for special programmes or as a special student.
  • Students whose academic record at the end of the previous year showed a final result other than “Pass year”

Online registration can be completed at  https://student.sun.ac.za/ from a device that can utilise a “desktop view” with internet access. Please note that the best browser to utilise is Microsoft Edge.

On-campus assistance to students with the online registration process.

  • Students (excluding those in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) are welcome to make use of the computer user area in Room E24, first floor of the Langenhoven Student Centre (Neelsie) during the dates indicated in the registration schedule, should they require support with online registration.
  • If you are unable to register online, or if you have specific requirements, you may register on campus during the assisted registration period (see Option 2 below), which will take place at the Coetzenburg Centre for all Stellenbosch Campus students.

Option 2: On-campus (assisted) registration (undergraduate and postgraduate programmes)

  • On-campus (assisted) registration is available for undergraduate and postgraduate students who cannot register online or have trouble completing their registration through the student portal. If you need help with aspects like curriculum advice, you can register in person during the on-campus registration period.
  • Keep in mind that each faculty has specific registration dates and deadlines for on-campus (assisted) registration. Please see the registration schedule or by clicking here.
  • All Stellenbosch campus students who are unable to register via the online registration process can register in the Coetzenburg Centre (CC).
  • Returning undergraduate students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences based on the Stellenbosch campus, can register with Ms Jamie Fredericks [[email protected]] in the Coetzenburg Centre (CC).

Please refer to the registration schedule for on-campus registration dates.
