The Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD) is committed to empowering students throughout their academic and personal life journeys. Our dedicated team provides psychological support, academic counselling, career development, as well as support and specialised resources for students with disabilities. We offer professional and confidential support to address your unique needs. Whether you need help managing stress, making career decisions, or adjusting to university life, we are here to assist. 

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

The CSCD runs a 24-hour emergency service in collaboration with ER24 to provide trauma and medical support to students.

Our team of highly trained and experienced psychologists, social workers and counsellors provide professional services to promote well-being, personal growth, and academic success. Whether you seek guidance on study techniques, emotional support, or career advice, we are here to assist you. With offices on the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses, and hybrid service options, we make it easy for you to access care that suits your needs. 

We also offer food assistance to students facing food insecurity and hunger.

Our Services

Academic counselling and development

Receive assistance with study techniques, time management and exam-related stress. Our career services can also guide your future direction.

Psychotherapeutic and support services

Access confidential therapy to help you deal with mental health and challenges that affect your overall emotional, psychological or social wellbeing, such as stress, depression, or difficulties with adjustment. Our social workers also provide support to students as well as manage our Food Security Programme.

Disability support

Graduand career services

Prepare for the workplace with comprehensive career support, guidance on CV writing and interview skills, and networking opportunities. Access internships and job opportunities while studying by attending our annual Careers Fair, and checking out our Graduate Recruitment booklet.

Food support programme

Food insecurity and student hunger remain of huge concern for universities across South Africa. At SU, we believe that no student should worry about where their next meal will come from. To support our students, we have developed the SU Food Security Programme. The programme is managed by our social workers, who will conduct a holistic assessment to determine how best we can assist you.
