Brass Ensemble

The University of Stellenbosch Brass Ensemble (USBE) was established in 2011, an initiative of Prof. Winfried Lüdemann and Pamela Kierman, Lecturer in Brass Studies, both proficient brass instrumentalists.

SU African Music Ensemble

SU African Music Ensemble is a celebration of indigenous sub-Saharan African music primarily from South Africa and Zimbabwe. In addition to the academic programme, the ensemble sings, performs marimbas, uhadi, umrhubhe, mbira, ancestral drums and the djembe.

Jazz Band

Based at Stellenbosch University, the Stellenbosch University Jazz Band (SUJB) is one of the ensembles of the Certificate Programme which is offered by the Music Department at the Konservatorium.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble

The University of Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble (USSWE) was established by Dr Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg in 1976, with only 10 members. This was the first university level Wind Band to be established in the Western Cape.

Chamber Choir

Schola Cantorum

In the first six years of Schola Cantorum’s existence, the academic chamber choir and residential choir of the Department of Music at Stellenbosch University has established itself as one of the pre-eminent choirs in the country.
