Anglican Church of Southern Africa
The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has been a partner of Stellenbosch University since March 2012 when the Bishop of False Bay co-signed an agreement of understanding. The formal partnership was the culmination of Anglican involvement in ecumenical projects in the Faculty of Theology since 1998. Unlike the other church partners who use the faculty to train their students for the ordained ministry, Anglican students who study theology and graduate are recruited for a vocation to holy orders. These recruits become ordinands after a rigorous discernment process. Ordinands attend the College of the Transfiguration in Grahamstown for one to two years for residential and Anglican confessional formation.
Volkskerk van Afrika
The Volkskerk van Afrika was founded on 14 May 1922 in Cape Town. The founding pastor was Rev JJH Forbes. The Volkskerk van Afrika is part of the Reformed church family and has 18 serving pastors serving 26 congregations. Rev Louis Jansen is currently the Moderator and represents the Volkskerk on the Ecumenical Council of SU. Rev Leon Smith is also closely involved in the university and Faculty of Theology activities.
United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa
The Lutheran Churches in Southern Africa under the auspices of the UELCSA recently became a partner of the Faculty of Theology and encourages all Lutherans who want to become ministers in the Lutheran churches to study at Stellenbosch University. The students are accompanied on their journey by Pastor Felix Meylahn, who has been appointed as Director of Studies for Lutheran Theology Students by UELCSA.
