Niel van Heerden Appointed to Institute of Food Technologists Board (2026–2027)
- Niel van Heerden’s appointment to the IFTSA Board of Directors further cements Stellenbosch University’s global leadership in food science, joining fellow students and faculty in prominent roles within the international organization.
Stellenbosch University MSc Food Science student Niel van Heerden has been appointed as a Member at Large on the 2026–2027 Board of Directors of the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association, or IFTSA. His appointment places him among a global group of student leaders helping to guide the direction, programming, and member experience of IFT’s student community for the year ahead.
IFTSA serves students within the Institute of Food Technologists by creating opportunities for leadership, professional development, connection, and involvement in the wider food science profession. In that context, his appointment is both a personal milestone and a meaningful opportunity to contribute to an international student network shaping the future of food.
His appointment also adds to Stellenbosch University’s already remarkable presence in IFT leadership. Jana Schreuder, also from Stellenbosch University, is currently serving as IFTSA President, while Prof Gunnar Sigge, Head of the Department of Food Science, is the current President-Elect of the IFT Board. Together, these appointments reflect the department’s sustained and growing contribution to food science leadership on both student and professional platforms.
