André Steenkamp is a patrol leader in the Risk Management and Campus Security department under Facilities Management. Andre joined Stellenbosch University 23 years ago.

Andre is extremely loyal to his team and Stellenbosch University and has become known as a very trustworthy and reliable person who can be relied on to be precise and just in his daily tasks.

André demonstrated his commitment to his colleagues, Campus Security, and Stellenbosch University when he was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2021.

While undergoing a stringent treatment program at Tygerberg Hospital, he chose to keep on working all his shifts, and only be absent to attend his treatment sessions. Currently, he is responding to the treatment well, while loyally serving the University by being present, by leading, and following on all his shifts, day and night, hot and cold.

André has truly demonstrated that Campus Security has strength in its ranks, where all seniors are committed and experienced to lead from the front, but also to be followers when required.

Thank you, Andrè for the incredible support you give to your team and the great Stellenbosch University community. It is because of people like you that parents like us, feel comfortable sending our children to this safe campus.​
