Permit Compliance

The Office for Research Integrity and Ethics (ORIE) recognises the importance of efficient and compliant research activities.

We aim to provide a one-stop service for all SU researchers through which they can access comprehensive information regarding all permits required for research and teaching.

All researchers must comply with the laws and regulations governing research involving plants, humans, animals, and/or hazardous biological agents. Use the guidelines below to ensure your research adheres to all regulatory requirements.

Please note:

Submissions for Section 20 permit applications will close on 30 November 2025 and reopen on 12 January 2026.

*Please note: A new Section 20 application form is now available. The previous version will no longer be accepted from 1 January 2026.
