Assessment and examination
Successful completion of Clinical Paediatric Medical Oncology 872 requires the following:
• satisfactory participation whilst working as a senior registrar in the Division of Paediatric Oncology and
• a pass mark of at least 50% in the Cert Medical Oncology (SA) Paed examination of the CMSA and
• successful completion of a flexible assessment strategy, evaluated via work-based assessments and
• sufficient progression and professional behaviour, evaluated via work-based assessments.
You must keep a portfolio/logbook of clinical activities, relevant courses attended, experience using formal developmental assessment tools and knowledge of relevant services. Paediatric Medical Oncology training will include rotations through the Divisions of Radiation Oncology and Haematological Pathology (Haematology laboratory).
You are expected to complete a research assignment. You must register the research protocol and gain departmental approval within six months after you have registered for the programme. The protocol should be approved by the relevant research ethics committees not later than 12 months after registration for the programme. You must complete the research assignment within two years of registration. The research assignment must be submitted in the form of an article ready for publication.
The Cert Medical Oncology (SA) Paed mark, once obtained, represents the mark for Clinical Paediatric Medical Oncology 872.
The modules contribute to the final MPhil mark as follows:
• Clinical Paediatric Medical Oncology 75%; and
• Research Assignment 25%.
The MPhil clinical training period is two years. After completion of the clinical training period, you are required to vacate your post. You are required to complete the research assignment in this time period. The maximum period of enrolment for the MPhil is four years.
