SU scientist receives R14 million grant to tackle West Nile virus

Dr Monika Moir of the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation received a SAMRC–UKRI grant. Will focus on how climate change reshapes spread of West Nile virus in Africa. Will also investigate movement of virus and strengthen surveillance and research capacity.

International Biodiversity Day: Wild harvesting across Africa for the global cosmetics industry

International Biodiversity Day was on 22 May. Dr Francis Vorhies of the African Wildlife Economy Institute wrote an opinion piece. He explained how the harvesting of Africa’s wild species supports rural livelihoods and boosts the global cosmetics industry.
