Description
In collaboration with the Stellenbosch University International (part of GEP courses- Global Education Programmes), the Department of Modern Foreign Languages offers beginners' evening classes in French, German, Spanish and Chinese. The introduction of Arabic language evening course is also being planned. The courses take place during the semester and are intended for those who have very little or no knowledge of the language.

Description
Moving from familiar surroundings to a new country with new people and new cultures is not always easy. Our Matie Buddy programme provides international students with an opportunity to connect with a local student even before they arrive in South Africa. This will help them settle into life at Stellenbosch University.

ABOUT THE FIRSTRAND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES
FirstRand is inviting students to apply for their International Postgraduate Scholarship programmes for the 2026 academic year. A virtual/online presentation on these scholarships (options/qualification criteria/selection process/value, etc) will be presented by FirstRand to the Stellenbosch University students on Thursday, 20 November 2025 (12:00 – 13:00).
FirstRand is offering a variety of scholarship awards (see below and attached).
ABOUT THE FIRSTRAND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES
FirstRand is inviting students to apply for their International Postgraduate Scholarship programmes for the 2026 academic year.
1) FirstRand Oxford African Studies scholarship at the University of Oxford: is for a postgraduate MSc in African Studies, at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. (One scholarship will be awarded.)
2) FirstRand Oxford Blavatnik School of Government scholarship at the University of Oxford: is for a postgraduate Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. (One scholarship will be awarded.)
3) FirstRand Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment scholarship at the University of Oxford: is for a postgraduate MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and the Environment Studies, at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. (One scholarship will be awarded.)
4) FirstRand IHE Delft Water Education scholarship at IHE Delft: is for a postgraduate MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft, in the Netherlands. (One scholarship will be awarded.)
5) FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship: is for postgraduate studies in ANY field of study, at ANY international university. (Two scholarships will be awarded).
6) FirstRand Foundation Scholarship: is for previously disadvantaged students, for postgraduate studies in ANY field of study, at ANY international university. (Three scholarships will be awarded.)
7) FirstRand IE University scholarship for a Masters in Business Analytics and Big Data or a Masters in Computer Science and Business Technology at IE University, Madrid
8) Mandela Scholarships supported by the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation for a Masters degree at the University of Sussex.
Criteria
The successful candidates will have excelled academically in their chosen field and will have been able to demonstrate:
- Leadership qualities;
- Strength of character;
- Community involvement; and
- the potential to be a destiny changer in his or her chosen field.
Candidates who are currently, or have been studying overseas for degree purposes, will not be considered for this scholarship.
Successful candidates are required to return to South Africa for at least five years after completing their studies.

Requirements
- You must be a registered Stellenbosch University student for 2025/2026
- Open to all degrees — no requirement for prior knowledge in entrepreneurship or sustainability
- Full availability for the entire programme (19–29 January 2026) — no exceptions
- Mandatory attendance of all classes, group work sessions, and lectures
