- SU Spinout GreenX Engineering Issues EPC to Boland College
Stellenbosch University's (SU) Spinout Company GreenX Engineering, a certified Electrical Performance Certificate (EPC) inspection body, issued Boland College's first EPC, together with a detailed energy audit report, on Friday, 30 January 2026. Boland College is among the first technical and vocational education and training colleges in South Africa to receive such certification.
"Boland College is proud to be among the first colleges to be certified by the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) as compliant with South African National Standards (SANS) legislation 1544:2014," said Boland College's Principal, Mr Charles Goodwin. "The EPC reflects the College's strategic commitment to environmental sustainability. Through the leadership and dedication of the College Green Committee, they have already implemented meaningful energy-efficiency initiatives, resulting in reduced energy consumption and a more sustainable campus environment."
GreenX Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jason Samuels, said GreenX Engineering conducted a comprehensive energy audit to assess the electrical consumption of key buildings on the College's Stellenbosch campus that qualify for an EPC. These are buildings larger than 1000 m².
"Based on this assessment, we issued an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) along with a detailed energy audit report. The report provides insights into energy consumption patterns and identifies appliances and systems with the highest energy usage."
"This is a significant milestone for Boland College, confirming their commitment to a greener future, greater transparency in their sustainable reporting, and a first step towards improving their facilities' utility management," said Samuels.
Since becoming an authorised EPC contractor and inspection body in October 2023, GreenX has issued over 100 EPCs. They have completed the majority of these for educational institutions, including approximately forty EPCs for Curro Schools and four EPCs for SU. Other projects include two EPCs for Eskom-owned buildings and eleven EPCs for Ingenuity Property Investments.
