Prof Richard Stevens

Executive Assistant
Prof Richard Arno Stevens is the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Learning and Teaching at Stellenbosch University, serving from April 2025 to March 2026. Prior to this role, he was Vice-Dean: Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Law, where he played a pivotal role in advancing innovative teaching practices and curriculum development.
An admitted attorney and accredited commercial mediator, Prof Stevens holds an LLD from Stellenbosch University, as well as an LLM (cum laude) from the University of Tübingen. He has also served as a visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich since 2021.
Prof Stevens’s scholarly work focuses on corporate and commercial law, with numerous publications in leading journals, and he has supervised several postgraduate students in diverse fields including corporate liability and environmental law. Alongside his academic career, he brings significant practical experience from his tenure as a director in the commercial division of Cluver Markotter Inc, as well as his involvement with various non-profit organisations.
He is fluent in English, Afrikaans, and German, with additional proficiency in Dutch.
