Academic Affairs Council

The Academic Affairs Council, also known as the AAC, is a Student Representative Council ('SRC') substituent. The broader Council consists of the Chairperson and Vice chairperson of all ten Faculties' Student Committes (FSCs) as well a five-person Executive Committee.

In essence, the AAC works towards representing and advocating for the academic interests of students. As such, the AAC is constitutionally mandated to actively promote access to quality education, adequate academic support as well as transparent and justifiable assessment procedures. Subsequently, the AAC, represented by our Chairperson, serves on multiple structures and branches of the institution, such as the Timetable Committee, the Academic Planning Committee of Senate and the Committe of Teaching and Learning.

Ultimately, the AAC works towards academic success as a supportive body, through the collaborative work of all its members as well as through the asisatnce of the relevant structures. Queries are handled in accordance with a model that encourages a collaborative effort in which students are supported in and around the academic environment. From the class representatives, to the AAC, the SRC and finally to Management, students are encouraged to seek support.

Lastly, the AAC has committed itself to serving the students at Stellenbosch University and should therefore be held accountable in that regard. The structure of the Council allows for a system of checks and balances to ensure the effective, sustainable, and consistent effort towards academic success for all.
