Message from the Chief Director

Reflecting on 2025. Advancing with Purpose

2025 has been a strong year for Maties Sport. Our senior leadership, student-athletes, coaches, sport management staff, administrators, volunteers and partners delivered impressive results across participation, high-performance pathways and community engagement. These achievements reflect the strength of our collective ecosystem, and we extend our sincere appreciation to all who contributed.

Alongside these successes, we conducted a structured review of our performance, governance and strategic alignment through various processes. This enabled us to confirm areas of strength while identifying opportunities to enhance coordination, governance discipline and long-term sustainability.

A key insight emerged: sustainable excellence depends on strong systems, shared leadership and clear accountability.

Strengthening shared leadership and accountability

As we move into 2026, we are reinforcing a culture of collective accountability, one of the University’s core values, where roles are clear, collaboration is intentional, and leadership is shared across the system.

Our focus includes:

  • Clarifying responsibilities across units and sport codes.
  • Strengthening governance discipline at the departmental and club level through audits, reviewing our club constitutions to implement one constitution across all codes with relevant bylaws.
  • Enhancing alignment between campus participation, competitive and high-performance pathways.
  • Embedding structured, evidence-informed reporting cycles

By understanding our distinct roles while working toward a common purpose, we strengthen trust, alignment and long-term execution.

Looking ahead: 2026–2030

The next five years will prioritise sustainable sport code management, responsible financial stewardship, advancing transformation and universal access, and integrated performance advancement.

Maties Sport remains committed to building a sport ecosystem that balances excellence, inclusion, and integrity in governance, ensuring that our success is not only achieved but sustained.

Together, we advance with clarity, purpose and shared responsibility.
