Registration and fees
Everything you need to register successfully and manage your student fees for 2026.
2026 Registration
All newcomer (undergraduate and postgraduate) and returning students must register for the 2026 academic year at Stellenbosch University. It is each student’s responsibility to confirm when they have to register, and that they are registered for the correct academic programme and correct modules.
All students are encouraged to register online (self-registration) via the student portal. Consult the Online Registration Guide and the Registration Quick Reference Guide for assistance. Assisted registration will be available on the Stellenbosch, Tygerberg and Bellville Park campuses to students who are unable to register online.
- Please note that different registration periods and procedures may apply to newcomer first-year and new postgraduate students, and for returning undergraduate and postgraduate students on the respective campuses.
- First-time-entering undergraduate students are advised to follow the registration schedule carefully. Some programmes may close once the target number of students has been reached, and registration will therefore take place on a first-come, first-served basis.
- It is vital to ensure that you are familiar with the specific arrangements applicable to your study level, campus and academic programme. See links below for campus-specific (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg and Bellville Park) information and registration arrangements for international students.
Registration-related services move to Coetzenburg Centre
Due to the refurbishment of the Administration A building, assisted on-campus registration will take place at the Coetzenburg Centre (no 308 on the campus map) for students on the Stellenbosch campus.
All registration-related services for students — including the Centre for Academic Administration, the Accommodation Office, Client Service Centre, Central Application Office, Student Finance (fees and bursaries) and student cards — will be clustered at the Coetzenburg Centre from 12 January to 20 February 2026.
- Newcomer and returning students registering for faculties on the Stellenbosch campus must refer to the registration schedule for assisted registration. Take note of the dates and timeslots allocated to your study level, faculty and academic programme.
- Returning undergraduate students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences based on the Stellenbosch campus, can register with Ms Jamie Fredericks [[email protected]] in the Coetzenburg Centre.

Notice on financial blocks
If there is an outstanding balance on your Student Fees account from 2025, you will not be able to register for 2026 until the outstanding debt is paid in full. This is in accordance with Stellenbosch University (SU) policy.
To make a payment, please review the payment options on the SU website: online card payment, SnapScan, or EFT – and remember to include your SU student number as the reference number when making a payment.
For a student whose financial circumstance does not support a full payment of the outstanding balance, we recommend you consider applying for a study/bank loan. Capitec, Nedbank and Standard Bank offer study loan options, and Fundi and Manati are finance service providers with more lenient credit criteria. SU has collaborated with Student Hero to assist students and their families to apply, qualify, and compare affordable student finance offers from major South African banks and alternate finance providers; it’s done on a single platform at zero cost to the applicant. For more information, please visit the Bank Loans tab on the Undergraduate Bursaries website.
For students who are privately funded, please provide a letter from your funder, on their official letterhead, stating that you will be funded for 2026. The letter must include your name and SU student number. To submit this documentation, please go to the SU service desk portal and log in; select Student Finances > Undergraduate Bursaries > Confirmation of Private Funding; fill in the required information and remember to upload the letter as an attachment, then click Create to submit the ticket.
For NSFAS-funded students, the Undergraduate Bursaries office is busy completing a risk mitigation exercise based on academic eligibility and remittances still in progress, and have categorised students into low-, medium-, or high-risk groups. On Tuesday 13 January, the office sent out a mailer to all affected students’ @sun address, so please check your mailbox for ongoing updates, as applicable. Please also note that any lifting of a financial block which may allow you to register, should not in any way be regarded as confirmation that you will be funded by NSFAS for the 2026 academic year.
