Dr. Jamie Cripwell, a senior lecturer at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University, has recently been awarded the Y1 rating in the “Promising Young Researchers” category by the National Research Foundation (NRF) in South Africa. The Y1 rating is granted to young researchers, typically under the age of 35 and within 5 years of earning their Ph.D., who are identified by reviewers as having the potential to emerge as future leaders in their field or as researchers with significant international influence.

The NRF rating system is a key benchmark for evaluating researchers against global standards, primarily considering the quality and impact of their recent research outputs, with input from local and international peers. This recognition not only celebrates Dr. Cripwell’s individual achievement but also highlights the commitment of Stellenbosch University to nurturing and fostering top-tier research talent.

Regarding his future research, Dr. Cripwell, whose experimental work and modeling have primarily been focused on thermodynamics, is excited to integrate thermodynamics with machine learning, as he is now also involved in the machine learning research group within the Department.
