Mathematics Division

The Mathematics Division is part of the Department of Mathematical Sciences and has 23 members of academic staff, as well as a large cohort of postgraduate students.

Our research activities span a range of subject areas, including Combinatorics, Lattice Theory, Algebraic Number Theory, Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry, Algebra, Topology and Category Theory, Functional Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Wavelets and Subdivision Analysis, Mathematical Finance, Mathematical Biology.

Several seminar groups are active with weekly meetings, as well as regular colloquium talks by visitors to the Department.

Our undergraduate programmes


BSc (Focal area: Biomathematics)

Applied Mathematics in combination with Biochemistry or Biodiversity and Ecology, with postgraduate study possibilities in Mathematics, Biochemistry, Botany or Zoology. 


Bachelor of Data Science

The BDatSci programme is an interdepartmental and interfaculty collaboration between Science, Economic and Management Sciences, AgriSciences and Arts and Social Sciences. The programme will give you a thorough grounding in all aspects of the data lifecycle, including data collection, processing, analysis, and visualisation. The faculty where you are registered, awards the degree.
