Camerata

Stellenbosch University Camerata

Overview

The Stellenbosch University Camerata was founded in 2008 as the brainchild of Peter Martens. The initial concept was to establish a chamber orchestra consisting of SU lecturers, students, and alumni that would collaborate with international soloists, often performing without a conductor.

Collaborations and Guest Artists

Notable visiting artists have included violinists Daniel Rowland, Zoë Beyers, Joshua Bell, Pinchas Zuckerman, and Benjamin Schmidt; cellist Amanda Forsyth; as well as the Tim Kliphuis Jazz Trio.

Recordings and Recognition

The US Camerata appears on CD recordings with Zoë Beyers and Luís Magalhães, the Tim Kliphuis Jazz Trio, and on a number of film scores. The CD recording with Daniel Rowland performing the Vivaldi–Piazzolla Eight Seasons won the 2010 SAMA Award for “Best Popular Classical Album.”
