PGDA or BACCHONS (THE POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME )

Except where otherwise indicated, any reference to “the programme” means the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) and the BAccHons programme. The two programmes are presented jointly and are identical, except for the additional compulsory BAccHons research module (see “Modules” below).

The language of instruction is English with simultaneous interpreting to Afrikaans. All class notes, tests and examinations are available in Afrikaans and English.

The programme is not available on a distance education basis.

The School uses a system of class representatives as communication channel between students and lecturers/the School.  Each year two class representatives are selected for each year of study.

The class representatives, in conjunction with the class, are responsible for discussing all matters regarding the course with either the relevant lecturer or designated independent lecturer in a timely manner.  The class representatives meet with the independent lecturer on a regular basis (at least after the completion of a test series) to discuss the progress with the respective course programs and/any possible difficulties.

Such matters must directly be communicated to the School of Accountancy (by reporting it to the class representatives). Reporting directly to the Dean or Vice Dean (Education) serves no purposes, since the matter will first be referred back to the School.

Students are requested to utilise abovementioned communication channels without hesitation.

On an annual basis the School of Accountancy identifies calculators which are permitted and which dispose over the necessary functions for examination purposes. They make their decision based on the curriculum at that point of time and select a calculator that would meet for the students' needs until the end of their honours year.

Students must take note that only non-programmable calculators are allowed in test and examination rooms.
