Academic Programmes
Research
School of Accountancy’s research advances thought leadership in accounting, governance, and sustainability, delivering insights that shape policy, practice, and the future of the profession. Our staff produce impactful, globally relevant scholarship that bridges academic excellence with real-world application.
Social Impact
Making a tangible social impact forms part of the vision of the School of Accountancy (SOA) and, as such, is an integral part of the teaching, learning, and research conducted by our staff. The staff of the SOA contribute to social impact through their involvement in major projects in a personal capacity, as well as through participation within the University landscape and the accounting profession;whether by serving on committees and/or representing professional organisations. Several staff members also voluntarily share their time and expertise by serving on the boards of non-profit organisations, including Stellenbosch Hospice, Matie Community Service, and ChangeAbility. Our students and academic clerks also leave a social footprint through various annual projects, including fundraising initiatives.
Learning and Teaching
The world is entering a period of significant change. Whether it be exponential changes in use, application, and power of technology, climate change, or expected shift in the political and social sphere, the influence of the change has a fundamental impact on all aspects of modern life, both personal and professional. Most of these changes have been brought about by the fourth industrial revolution. A revolution in which new technologies or novel ways of perceiving the world trigger changes in economic and social structures. Thus, also has an impact on our value and belief systems and will require that some existing ideas, theories, and beliefs be revised.
Staff
The School of Accountancy is proud to be supported by a dedicated team of academic and administrative staff who work collaboratively to deliver excellence in teaching, research, and student support. From inspiring lecturers and leading researchers to the professional services team who ensure the smooth running of our programmes, our people are at the heart of everything we do.
The Annual Report
The RekNuus, or The Annual Report (name change in 2020) is the annual newsletter of the School of Accountancy at Stellenbosch University. This newsletter reports on the activities, achievements and research of the School’s staff, our students and those associated with us.
Academic Traineeship Program
The SAICA allows a limited number of trainee accountants to follow the Academic Traineeship Program (ATP). The program involves trainee accountants spending the first year of their traineeship at a SAICA-accredited university. The ATP offers trainee accountants the opportunity to spend their first traineeship year in a stimulating academic environment, inter alia, with the goal of making them interested in pursuing an academic career in future. A number of the staff members of the School of Accountancy were as a matter of fact, former academic trainee accountants. This program also strengthens the staff corps of the School, since trainee accountants are exposed to similar tasks as junior lecturers.
