About us
The Centre for Global Surgery (CGS) was formally established in 2019.
CGS is the one of the most prolific global research surgery units in Africa. We aim to generate high-quality research, engage policymakers, and train future global surgery leaders to promote equitable surgical care in Africa. We are a diverse team of experts with a wide variety of skills, experience, and knowledge
The activities are focused on global surgery research, stakeholder engagement, teaching and learning. We work to identify strategies to improve the quality of surgical care and the health system by incorporating safe and equitable surgical care into universal health coverage. Community-centred approaches are used to understand better person-related barriers to seeking surgical services. Furthermore, the Centre is committed to improving care for marginalised groups, especially in low-resource and rural environments where surgical care is particularly inequitable.
