Family Centre for Research with Ubuntu (FAMCRU)
FAMCRU is a clinical research centre within the Department of Paediatrics and Child health at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa. Our primary site is located at Tygerberg Academic Hospital with satellite sites at Kraaifontein community health centre and Michael Mapongwana community health centre in Khayelitsha.
The centre conducts clinical trials including vaccine studies in both adult and paediatric infectious diseases, with a primary focus on HIV, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/TB co-infection, and common childhood infectious diseases. We conduct and encourage investigative driven observational and qualitative research.
Established in 2002, FAMCRU has grown and expanded from a primarily paediatric research focus to include adolescents, adults and pregnant women with a broadening of the scope of infectious diseases studied.
