Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

At the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, housed within the Department of Surgical Sciences, we blend art and science to transform lives through innovative procedures. Our surgeons excel in microsurgery and craniofacial reconstruction using advanced techniques that restore function and enhance appearance. We pioneered super-microsurgical methods for complex reconstructions and introduced novel craniofacial techniques that have redefined surgical standards locally. Our state-of-the-art facilities offer real-world case training and high-fidelity simulation, ensuring every trainee gains hands-on experience in live surgeries.

Our department stands out for its breakthroughs in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Award-winning research in hand and oncological reconstruction has led to bespoke protocols that restore delicate hand function and integrate digital planning tools for improved outcomes. These accomplishments elevate patient care and inspire future surgeons to lead with precision and empathy. Through rigorous training programmes and transformative research, we continue redefining reconstructive surgery and impacting healthcare in our community and beyond.

Our programmes

Master of Medicine (MMed) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

A comprehensive postgraduate training programme designed for medical professionals specialising in plastic and reconstructive surgery. This programme combines rigorous academic learning with practical surgical experience to equip students with advanced clinical and technical skills.

Specialisation Areas

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers a wide range of specialisation areas that focus on both functional and aesthetic procedures:

  • Breast Reconstruction:

Specialised techniques for reconstructing the breast following mastectomies, utilising microsurgical procedures for optimal results.

  • Head and Neck Cancer Reconstruction:

Reconstructive surgery for patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancers, focusing on restoring both function and appearance.

  • Hand Surgery:

Aimed at restoring the functionality and aesthetic of the hand, including procedures to treat trauma, congenital deformities and conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • Lower Extremity: Reconstruction

Reconstructive procedures focus on restoring the function and appearance of lower limbs, often after trauma or deformities.

  • Facial Reanimation Surgery:

Surgical techniques to restore facial symmetry and function for patients with conditions like facial paralysis.

  • Male and Female Genital Reconstruction:

Reconstructive surgery to address congenital conditions, trauma, or gender affirmation procedures.
