Division of Otorhinolaryngology

The Otorhinolaryngology Division, housed within the Department of Surgical Sciences, has continually pushed the envelope in medical research and surgical training. We have pioneered hearing loss interventions and launched the country’s first Cochlear Implant Programme, which has restored hearing for hundreds of patients. Our programme provides comprehensive pre- and post-surgical care while integrating work with audiologists and speech therapists. This achievement has changed lives and set a new standard in ENT care. Our relentless pursuit of innovative treatments and knowledge fuels further advancements in the field, inspiring hope and confidence in our patients.

Our expertise spans head and neck surgery, otology, rhinology and paediatric airway surgery. Our teaching programmes equip future ENT specialists with advanced skills, ensuring they deliver the most effective treatments. We maintain strong partnerships with the Department of Speech-Language and Hearing Therapy, the Cochlear Implant Team and the Carel du Toit School. These close-knit collaborations ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care, resulting in exceptional outcomes and an enduring commitment to excellence.
