The Division of Sport Science

The Division of Sport Science, part of the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Lifestyle Medicine, offers comprehensive programmes and research initiatives that explore human body motion from physiological, anatomical, and biomechanical perspectives. Key areas of study include applied anatomy and biomechanics, motor learning, sport and exercise physiology, sport ethics, programme development, sport injuries, coaching, adapted movement programmes, and the fitness industry. The practical components provide extensive experience in human movement, fitness and skill development in coaching.

Sport Science is an interdisciplinary field that examines human physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition within the context of sports and exercise. It focuses on enhancing athletic performance, promoting physical activity, understanding the body's response to exercise, and fostering overall health and well-being, and self-renewing. 

Ultimately, our research efforts are not only aimed at academic success but also at making a significant impact in the world.

Our programmes

BSc Sport Science

This programme studies human movement from various perspectives, which includes the following elements namely,  the physiological, the psychological, anatomical, health and wellness and the biomechanical components. The programme covers the following areas: applied anatomy and biomechanics, motor learning, sport and exercise physiology, sport ethics, sport and exercise psychology, exercise and sport programme design and the implementation, sport injuries, coaching, adapted movement programmes, and the scientific basis of exercise science and fitness training.

BSc Honours in Performance Sport

The BSc Honours degree in Performance Sport is the science of understanding and learning how to apply the specialized training methodologies of competitive high-level athletes who compete in individual and team sports. Students who study in this focused area, provide scientific services to healthy individuals on all levels of the sport participation continuum, as well as in the fitness industry.

MSc Sport Science

The Division of Sport Science offer a 100% research-based MSc, which means this programme does not include any coursework. However, based on your background and based on the divisional policy you might have to follow certain courses.

PhD

The Division of Sport Science offer a 100% research-based PhD, which means this programme does not include any coursework. However, based on your background and based on the divisional policy you might have to follow certain courses.
