Social Impact

The central mission of our unit is to deliver equitable, high-quality care to all South Africans, irrespective of socioeconomic status. We work in close partnership with our sister unit at Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) to secure access to stem cell transplantation for patients requiring this life-saving intervention. 
In addition, our unit has established a strategic collaboration with DKMS Africa to host donor recruitment drives at Tygerberg Hospital. This initiative is aimed at expanding and diversifying the national donor registry to more accurately reflect the South African population. Through these efforts, we strive to improve access to stem cell transplantation and ensure that this critical treatment modality is available to all citizens of our country.
