Meet Nathan Daniels: #MyTygerMaties60
As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is introducing 60 future healthcare professionals who are currently in their first year. Meet Nathan Daniels.T.O.T. “Time-on- task,” Nathan Daniels explains. “The more time you spend on an activity, whether it be studying, training or drawing, the better you will become at it.”It’s with this mindset that Daniels achieved seven distinctions in last year’s matric exams. Now he’s enrolled as an MB,ChB student at Stellenbosch University. “I’m very goal orientated and I will go all the way to achieve my goals,” he says. But it wouldn’t have been possible without the sacrifices his mom made, he adds. “My mother and my late grandmother always knew what I was capable of and did their best to ensure that I am here today. They showed the highest level of resilience when it came to difficult situations and this motivates me to be the best that I can be.”And he’s already working on the T.O.T to achieve his next goal: he spends most his free time watching surgeries on YouTube. “I want to make a difference.”Nathan in a nutshell:
- What do you think is the meaning of life? “Love, live, learn and to be happy.”
- Hidden talent? “I don’t know if it’s hidden, but I’m not bad when it comes to playing soccer.”
- What would you change in South Africa if you could? “The mind-set of certain communities who think they will always be inferior and that it's impossible for them to go out into the world and make a name for themselves.”
