Meet Luné Smith: #MyTygerMaties60
As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is introducing 60 future healthcare professionals who are currently in their first year. Meet Luné Smith. At 19, Luné Smith doesn’t even know what she wants for breakfast in the mornings, but every day she knows that her choice to study medicine was the right one. “One day I want to be one of the world’s best surgeons." Smith is a first year MB,ChB student and Huis Francie resident.Last year Smith received eight distinctions as a matriculant of Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria where she also received accolades for her participation in the debating team and school choir.Though she’s used to a demanding schedule, she’s not immune to procrastination, especially during exam times. “Then I do my nails and my eyebrows. I can spend hours on a pampering session. So at least if my marks don’t look good, I know I will," she jokes. But she does take her studies very seriously. “I'll never stop studying if I don't feel comfortable with the work. Good eating habits and regular exercise helps me survive long study sessions."Smith also makes time to read classic literature (Wuthering Heights by Emily Brönte was the latest), mountain biking, playing netball, baking chocolate cake and hanging out with friends. "People energise me."In 10 years' time she would have already wanted to…
